Several issues were of primary concern when Torre/Lazur Communication consolidated and moved their creative departments to a new 25,000 square foot office space. Composed of smaller boutique companies, several of which were profit centers, Torre, Lazur wanted to be able to present the wide variety of resources they could provide to clients in a clear, organized way. Also, because the office would be designed to accommodate over 135 staff members, areas where staff from different departments could meet in common spaces to discuss projects and have impromptu meetings about presentations was critical.
To address both of these issues, the various departments were grouped around a large central space that came to be known as the Promenade. Designed with display windows and doors to each department, tours could be given to prospective clients in a main street fashion, introducing them to all of the resources available to their projects. When not in use for client presentations, the space could be used as a flexible collective area for meetings of all sizes, a sort of extended town square. The Promenade space, elevated 6" above the surrounding offices, is designed with a curving floor and sloped walls, giving the occupant the feeling of being in a large ship or vessel. To facilitate the flow of ideas, the walls are constructed of marker board which can be drawn or written on freely and then erased.
